About Me

Hello and Welcome To My Website!

I am a registered social worker by training and have worked over 32  years providing therapeutic counselling and psychotherapy. In 1990 I obtained my Masters of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University specializing in clinical social work with Individuals, Families and Groups. I have worked with a broad spectrum of clients over my many years of counselling. Some of my of interests and experience include working with survivors of trauma both from the distant past and more present day trauma (this includes childhood trauma, sexual, emotional, physical abuse; war trauma and operational stress injuries, motor vehicle accidents). Also I have worked extensively with people with depression and anxiety; couple and family relationship issues, eating disorders and body dysmorphia, grief and loss, sexual orientation, self-esteem, trust, work stress, medical and health concerns, life transition issues and so on.

I have experience with leading support groups for motherless daughters (adult women who lost their mothers in childhood), shyness and communication, stress management, a women's support group as well as treatment groups for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

LGBTQ2S+ and Polyamory relationships are also an area of interest.

I worked for ten years in the counselling centre on campus of a large Toronto university seeing students in counselling and training social work and psychology interns. Prior to that I worked for 10 years for McMaster University, Department of Family Medicine seeing patients in counselling but also training beginning social workers and doctors in communication skills and professional relationship skills. I have also worked in various EAP settings over the years.  Hence counselling health professionals is an area I am particularly experienced with.

In the past 10 years I have had the privilege of working with several members of the Canadian Forces as well as other First Responders including police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and 911 dispatchers.

I see myself as a practical, interactive, solution oriented therapist. My treatment approach is to provide support, suggestions and feedback to help clients resolve current problems and long-standing patterns. My goal is to incorporate a blend of conventional and alternatives approaches, drawing upon a variety of styles and techniques to incorporate what will be most helpful for each client. Your change and healing are my goals.

Various therapeutic modalities I draw from: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Psycho-Dynamic therapy, Family Systems Theory, Solution Focused Therapy and EMDR Therapy, the Motivational Interviewing Model to name a few.

With sensitivity and compassion, I work with you to build on strengths, to help you to identify and achieve your life goals.
